Just wondering...
Attorney convicted
After reading this article, I'm somewhat curious if there isn't some sort of hysteria that could possibly be taking place... is it possible that we're reliving the sort of fear that took over the U.S. in the 50s with the communism scare? Granted, this is one case where they have clear evidence that she helped a terrorist... but it just sorta made my mind start working in that direction...
It's amazing how people respond to fear. Amazing. Fear is what has caused so many tragic events and emotions - like racism, vietnamese camps in the U.S., the ability to abuse people and not have them stick up for themselves. It's fear that captures peoples' hearts... My own, included. I went to buy spinach yesterday and thought... "well... maybe I'll wait a little longer until they're sure there's no more e-coli around" Have a even been paying attention to whether there is or not or what the specifics are? No... just blindly believing spinach is now verbotent because it contains ecoli. Good gracious.
Fear is horrible. Except when it is directed towards God, I suppose. You can fear the fact that God could "smite" everyone... but there's this constant reminder that we are his beloved... :) He is so good... and so loving... and trustworthy. I had a good conversation this weekend that kept going over and over in my head. And God is trustworthy... therefore, if we trust him, we have nothing to fear. All the silly fears of rejection or the unknown or not living up to a certain standard would dissipate. We would see each other as God sees us - lovable beings created to be in loving relationships. Oh, how I wish my heart would always see people through God's eyes...
Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation—but it is not to the sinful (fearful?) nature, to live according to it. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds (like racism?) of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. (because he can be trusted to work everything out for good...)
Just some thoughts...
